“The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.2 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” -Ecclesiastes 1:1-2, ESV
Here are some ways to pray through the verses from Pastor Clint’s sermon today:
Verse 1:
- Thank You for David, Solomon and the Book of Ecclesiastes
- Thank You for Your wisdom and for revealing it to us
- Thank You for being over every king and human government
- Thank You that Your Word is powerful in my life
- Help me watch my words
Verse 2:
- Forgive me for putting too much importance on things of this world that are fleeting and temporary
- Help me have proper perspective so I can spend my time and resources on things that are eternal
- Forgive me for the time, money and talents I’ve wanted on vain things
- Convict me today when I get lost in things that are vanity
- Give me perspective beyond my years and humility to learn from others
- Enable me to trust You when life is perplexing
- Teach me to number my days and let me know how fleeing my life is
- Teach me to rely on You alone
- Enable me to do the ordinary, mundane, necessary things of life for Your glory and with a joyful attitude
- Remind me in the mundane to look to You and to eternity
