About

I’m Candi. I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma and have been an OU Sooner fan from birth. Literally. My parents were OU fans and I remember childhood Saturdays watching them play football. Especially against Nebraska. So I’m Sooner born, Sooner bred and when I die I’ll be Sooner dead as we say. My family and I still cheer for them on Saturdays, even from North Carolina.

I grew up going to church and when I was 8, my dad sat down and shared the gospel with me from Romans- how I am a sinner and Jesus died on the cross to take the penalty for my sins. I responded in repentance and faith and my Christian life began. I was baptized on Easter Sunday, which I still think is pretty cool.

I went to OU (Yay!) and got a degree in nursing. Then I moved to North Carolina and got a Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Seminary. I was planning to go overseas to do mission work but nope. It was there I met my husband, Mike. We were friends for a year and a half then started dating. He asked me out during an OU national championship game that we lost. We haven’t won a football national championship since and I honestly kinda blame him a little.

We got married and moved to Charlotte for Mike to be a pastor on staff at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where we were for almost 16 years. We moved back to Wake Forest in 2021 and Mike is now the Vision and Preaching pastor at Richland Creek Community Church. We have three kids- Lily, Zeke and Kate.

I stay busy in my roles of wife and mom, and I enjoy serving at our church. I love coaching my kids, taking them to the library (I know I’m a nerd) and exploring new places together. We also like to hike, bike and travel.

When I was in college, I was challenged for the first time I can remember to love the Lord with my mind. Since then it has become a passion for me to encourage others to do the same- love the Lord with heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30.) I feel like the focus on loving the Lord with your mind is one that’s often overlooked, even more so with women. One purpose of this blog is to encourage believers in that pursuit.

Blogging for me is an attempt to use my gifts and talents in helping others in their walk with Christ. I’m honestly not sure if I’m good at this or whether it will be helpful or not, but that’s what I’m here trying to figure out.
