“[1] We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. [2] Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. [3] For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” [4] For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. [5] May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, [6] that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. [7] Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” -Romans 15:1-7, ESV.
Here are some ways to pray from the passage Pastor Clint preached from this morning.
Verse 1:
- Make me strong in my faith
- Give me patience and compassion for those who are struggling
- Give me strength to share other’s burdens today
Verses 2-3:
- Give me an attitude of servanthood and humility
- Make me gracious to those around me so that I can build them up in word and deed
- Fix my eyes on Jesus and not other people or circumstances around me as I endure reproach
- Thank you for the reproach You endured to secure my salvation
Verses 4-5:
- Remind and convict me every day to read my Bible
- Give me instruction, endurance, encouragement, and hope from Your Word today
- Reveal all my attitudes, motives and actions that don’t lead to harmony with those around me
- Thank you that You endured the cross and the way You consistently encourage me with Your Word and other believers
Verse 6:
- Make Hickory Grove, my local church, glorify you with one voice and focus on the eternal things that unify us and not temporary things that can divide
- Let me and other believers glorify you in all we eat, drink and do (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Verse 7:
- Glorify yourself by giving me a welcoming attitude toward other believers
- Let the world see our love for each other and be drawn to salvation by it John 13:35
